Tremont is one of Cleveland’s oldest
neighborhoods and increasingly its most interesting. For generations,
immigrants including many from Ukraine found a home there. In recent
years, the neighborhood has enjoyed a rebirth with new housing being
built, older historic residences being renovated and many restaurants,
art galleries and artists' studios opening. To showcase the talent
and attractions of the Tremont area, Councilman Joe Cimperman and
the Tremont West Development Corporation organized the second annual
Tremont Arts Festival in Lincoln Park, across from the UMA.
The UMA sponsored two booths in
the Festival—one with traditional Ukrainian folk art and crafts;
the other with traditional Ukrainian food. In the first one, Linda
Hupert demonstrated pysanka design; in the second, the UMA sold
varenyky and pastry. As a special attraction, the Cleveland Ukrainian
Chamber Choir (Kamernyi Khor) under the direction of Maksym
Syniohora, performed at the gazebo in Lincoln Park. On Sunday, a
group of residents from the Shevchenko Manor visited the UMA and
enjoyed the exhibits and attractions. Unfortunately, a light rain
that fell for part of the festival held down attendance. UMA Board
member, Aretka Kulchytsky, did a wonderful job organizing the UMA’s
effort. She put in a lot of time and effort and we would like to
thank her and the following people for their help:
