Jacques
Hnizdovsky is arguably the most recognized Ukrainian artist in the world
today, not only because his works are in hundreds, if not thousands of
private collections, art museums and galleries, but also because his
distinctive style of wood cuts and etchings is instantly recognizable. Modeling
his art on Japanese woodcuts and those of the great German master, Albrecht
Durer, Hnizdovsky developed a style that is all his own, characterized
by clarity, intricacy, great beauty and on occasion, humor. Born
in Ukraine , Hnizdovsky studied art
in Warsaw and Zagreb before
settling in the United States where
he launched a distinguished career as an artist, producing hundreds of
wood cuts and a good many oil paintings.
The
Ukrainian Museum-Archives, working in cooperation with the Cleveland
Chapter of the Ukrainian Women’s League of North
America, is pleased to sponsor an exhibit and sale of Jacques
Hnizdovsky prints that are being made available by the Estate of the
great Master. This will be the first such event in Ohio featuring
the works of Mr. Hnizdovsky in a generation. Hours of the exhibit
are:
